Shelley Thornton

Shelley Thornton is a contemporary artist whose work reflects the interplay of landscape, emotion, and narrative. Inspired by the unique light and natural beauty of her home in St Ives, Cornwall, Shelley captures moments of time, life, and color through a distinctive style that combines textures, song lyrics, and vibrant hues with linear precision.
Her art bridges the dichotomy of urban and coastal environments, integrating salvaged materials like sand, salt, cement, and rust to infuse her canvases with layers of history and symbolism. Music also plays a significant role in her creative process, with lyrical elements often woven into her mixed-media compositions.
A member of the National Acrylic Painters’ Association and an Associate of the Penwith Society of Artists, Shelley’s work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions worldwide and is featured in private and corporate collections. Recently, she was longlisted for the VAA Professional Artist Award 2023 and the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024.
